My name is Thomas James, and I am running for County Council District 4 (Westminster, Long Creek, Madison, Oakway). I was raised in Westminster and have lived here the majority of my life. I went to West-Oak High School where I met my wife, Jenni James. I joined the Navy and was married soon thereafter. When I got out of the Navy we moved back home to Westminster. Since then, I have been a small business owner and currently work as an insurance consultant. Jenni and I have been married for 30 years and the Lord has blessed us with 6 children and 3 grandchildren. They are the reason that I am seeking to serve on county council. I never saw politics in my future and do not have ambitions to “climb the political ladder.” I simply see what is happening in our county and feel that I have to do something to try and preserve the freedoms and way of life for our children and grandchildren. I am a conservative. I believe in limited government and the rights of the individual to live without excessive government controls and interference. I will make decisions based on Biblical Principles and the Constitution.
My oldest is son is Patrick, he is the wrestling coach for Truett Mcconnell University, where he teaches business there. He lives in Westminster with his wife, Anna, and their 3 children.
My oldest daughter, Hope, was recently married, and lives in Wisconsin with her husband, Reece. She writes for Ethnos 360 Bible Institute.
My 2nd oldest son is Ian, and he teaches at West-Oak, where he also coaches wrestling and baseball. He is married to Emma.
Clayton is our next oldest son, and he will be graduating Bob Jones University this spring with a degree in Physics and Mathematics.
Caleb is our 5th child, and he is also a student at Bob Jones. He is currently seeking a degree in Multimedia Journalism.
Audrey is our youngest daughter, and she is in the 2nd grade.
I have enjoyed being involved in West-Oak wrestling and baseball with my children.

*I am fiscally conservative.
There is no such thing as county money.
It is taxpayer money that is entrusted to the county.
Therefore, "tax policies should raise the minimum revenue
necessary to fund only constitutionally appropriate functions of government."
*I am pro law enforcement and believe in the rule of law.
We should make sure that the men and women in law enforcement
are fairly compensated and have the resources needed to keep
them as safe as possible.
*I uphold the constitutional right to private property.
The individual should have the right to enjoy the
fruits of their labor and to use their land as they see fit.
I also believe that "individuals and families make the best decisions
for themselves and their children about their health, education, jobs..."
* I am pro life.
I believe wholeheartedly in the sanctity of human life and will always
uphold and defend the unborn whether it be a resolution or otherwise.

The current method for liberalism and big government politicians to gain power, is to be disingenuous. They call themselves Republicans when behaving as Democrats and colluding with Democrats to advance their agenda. We sadly cannot trust what politicians say anymore, we must pay attention to what they are doing. By the time most people realize what is going on, our county will have become a place that we do not recognize.
We must all turn out to vote in this primary if we want to stop establishment politicians from both parties from silencing Oconee's conservative voice.
